* Hits vs. Page views

Universal Algorithms, Inc., host of Equinet, uses the more conservative metric "page views" rather than hits, when reporting activity on Equinet. Hits is a technical that refers to the total number of times a server has been accessed. For example, if a site reports 10 hits, this may correspond to only one page view. The first hit downloads the HTML file and the remaining hits download the images or graphics for that file. To determine page views, UAI subtracts all gif files (graphics and images) from total hits. The resulting metric, "page views," more closely reveals a true audience count.
